Our practice takes part in health research. This means we help with studies that aim to improve care for our patients now and in the future.
Research helps test new treatments, technology, and ways of working. These are tested safely in real healthcare settings, such as GP practices. Research is funded separately and helps improve patient care.
The COVID 19 pandemic showed how important research is. Research helped create vaccines and treatments that saved millions of lives.
Research also helps find new ways to:
• Prevent illness,
• Spot health problems earlier, and
• Improve how care is given.
It can also help reduce waiting times and pressure on the NHS.
From time to time, you may be invited to take part in a research study. Taking part is always your choice. Saying yes or no will not affect the care you receive from us.
We work with the National Institute for Health and Care Research, also known as NIHR. They support GP practices to offer research to patients. Each study is different, and you will always be given clear information to help you decide if you want to take part.
You may be asked to:
• Complete a questionnaire
• Take part in an interview
• Try a new therapy, device, or website
• Take a treatment with support from a healthcare professional
Below are examples of the types of research studies we may be involved in. These are for information only.
Current Studies
• SleepBuddy - Trial of a new website that has been designed to help parents and carers of children aged 6 to 12 with ADHD to improve their child’s sleep.
• INDIGO – Patient Questionnaire Study (Patient-Reported Outcome Measures) for those with a past diagnosis of cancer.
• PETRA – A trial of further options for treatment-resistant generalised anxiety disorder.
Previous Studies
• AATD - Focused on improving the diagnosis or early detection of AATD.
• RELIEF - Helped test a new approach to treatment in patients with mild asthma.
