Safe Surgeries

Ensuring that nobody is excluded from accessing the healthcare they need.

Foundry Healthcare Lewes is an accredited ‘Safe Surgery’

This means we have pledged to make our practice a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space for everyone in our community.

What is a Safe Surgery?

The Safe Surgeries initiative is run in partnership with the charity Doctors of the World UK.

NHS England guidelines are clear: everyone living in the UK has the right to free care from a GP. However, many people face administrative, language, or social barriers when trying to register. As a Safe Surgery, we commit to breaking down those barriers.

Our Promise to You: 5 Things You Can Expect

Whether you are joining Foundry or coming to an appointment, you can expect us to treat you fairly and with respect.

1. No ID or proof of address? That's OK.

You do not need to show ID or proof of address to register with us.

This means you do not need to show documents such as a passport, driving licence or utility bill. Having these details can help us find your medical records, but they are not needed to register with a GP.

2. No fixed address? We can still help.

You can register with us if you are homeless, staying with friends or family, or living in temporary accommodation.

If you do not have an address, we can use the surgery address as a temporary ‘care of’ address. This means you can still receive letters and test results safely.

3. Your information is private.

Your nationality or immigration status does not affect your right to GP care.

Our staff will not ask to see your visa or immigration papers. Your personal information is kept private and is not shared with the Home Office.

4. Free interpreter services

If you find it difficult to communicate in English, please let us know.

We can provide a free professional interpreter by phone or video. You can use this service when speaking to our reception team or during an appointment.

5. A team that understands your rights

Our staff have training to help them understand your rights to healthcare.

We will treat you with care and respect and help you access the care you need.
